Wishing all the wonderful mothers I know a wonderful day!
For those who would be interested a bit of reading and heavier thoughts for the day:
Mother's Day is traditionally a day to celebrate, thank and appreciate your mom. In making my traditional Mother's Day page for everyone (except my mom who doesn't even know a computer) I was thinking...(ruh roh...) about Sunday. My kids must have been raised by someone who simply missed out on rules of etiquette for the liklihood of me receiving anything past a "Happy Mom's Day" greeting is nil to none. This is okay. I will get even one day.
Some of you might have been kept up to date on the tragedies that have struck our tiny town of Merced this year. In late January, one of the six "Musketeers," as I called my fourteen year old daughter and her five closest friends, three couples, committed suicide. The devastion was unspeakable and still rocks all of our children. Late March, the town's beloved vet, Christine McFadden, lost all her four children in one fell swoop when her ex-husband entered her home while she was gone and killed them all. Again, no words to describe what the town is feeling, let alone what these mothers are going through and will for the rest of their lives.
I found myself picking up Jena's stuff, doing the wash, shopping, cooking, cleaning, doing all the terribly thankless jobs that we mothers do for our families and our children and realized I was incredibly grateful that I COULD do all this for her, and that I had a beloved daughter home, safe, sane (questionable) and basically happy.
This year, while we sit on our own laurels on Sunday, please take a moment to bless your children (for you non-mom's, your nieces and nephews or family) and thank whatever god exists for you that they are in your lives.
