My Own Way

And you asked me this morning just where I want to go
And I'll tell you just as gently that I really don't really know
You've told me your reasons why I should stay
I think of them most the time of every single day.

I don't want your life turned over
In exchange for mine in eternal vow
All I want is your tender loving
All the time we have right now.

You came up my mountain where I'd always stood alone
You climbed a trail not easy just to say what you would own.
The trail ran rough and heavy and it never was as wide
As my response to let you in, to bring you deep inside.

There is not another man
Who can own me just as you
For the loving is for giving
As I give my love to you.

Now can be forever or it can just be another day
I love my life as a golden ring, It keeps me my own way
Children in the morning and meadows in the sun
When you finally go away will you know what you've begun?

There is not another man
Who can own me just as you
But I love my life as a golden ring
It keeps me my own way.
