Hadrian's Wall is a stone barrier built by Roman Emperor Hadrian in an attempt to keep the Picts contained in northern Briton, what is now Scotland. (The people in Ireland were known as Scoti, those who left and came to northern Briton were called Picts.) Construction started in 122 AD, extended all the way across Britain (73 miles), included over a dozen forts and heights of ten feet, widths of eight feet and was completed in six years. To stand on it today is extraordinary. When the mist rolls in, it is almost as if you took a step back in time. A five star stop.
